My preferred mediums at present are painting in acrylic or acrylic with collage, and drawing with coloured pencils. But I have also worked in oils, pastel, charcoal, and ink, and return to them, depending on the project.
My work is usually theme based, and representational, I use still life objects to construct painted installations that appear to hang or be stuck on the surface of the canvas rather than in it. A major theme has been “knitting”. I am interested not only in how it has been used as a form of communication and care (socks for soldiers, blankets for babies and sweaters for loved ones) and how the objects often “stand in” for the recipient but also the graphic form of the stitches themselves.Other previous themes have been “landscape” and “Greek sculpture”. My present theme is “old toys”.
