Carnival, ancient culture and theatrical presentation of poetry and plays inspire my ideas.  Carnival and ancient culture use masks, while theatrical presentation encompasses scenery, cast and text.

Backdrops are my landscapes, heads masked and unmasked my cast, and text gives me situations.

Intensity and transparency of colour is attained by using mixed media on canvas, panel, metal, Perspex and acetate film – using, in fact, materials of which masks are made.  Collage using acetate film, allows me to maximise the intensity of colour and texture of my own original work, creating new relationships.

Someone once said: “True art remains the same as always – faith and total belief in the essence of an idea – and seeing that idea come to fruition. Art can be more or less anything – it is up to the artist to decide this – and to take responsibility”.  I do relate to this.
