Sheila Millward

Sheila Millward is a mixed-media artist.  She revels in mixing fine art and 'unnoble' materials.   Subjects can be the nude, flowers, landscape and issue-based work - 'Before anything else, a painting is a place, a sight for imaginative possibilities' - Malcolm Whittaker.

Born Hull, married, two sons, two daughters.  Part-time classes Hull College of Art 1966-9.  B.Ed. degree course 1969-70.  Art therapist, Swalcliffe Park School, Oxon. 1971-3.   Diploma, Painting, Printing and Drawing, Mid-Warks. College of Art (First Class Hons.) 1982-4.  

Post-Graduate Cert., Diploma and Master of Arts with Merit, in Fine Art and Theory, Coventry School of Art and Design, Coventry University, 1993-6.  Painting Tutor, Open College of the Arts. Artist-in-Residence, various education authorities. 

Exhibitions since 1984, 48 venues including Royal Academies, London, Bristol and Manchester; Tullie House Gallery, Carlisle; Ferens Art Gallery, Hull; Mappin Art Gallery and Crucible Theatre*, Sheffield; Bledfa Centre*, Wales; Edinburgh Fringe Festival*; Arts Council, Belfast; Fresh Art Degree Show, London; Cathedrals of Coventry*, Worcester*, St. Albans and Chichester; Green Belt Arts Festival, Midland Arts Centre*, Birmingham.    (* indicates one-woman shows)

Collections: British Rail NW Division, Lord Parkinson and Private.

Awards: Helios Open, 1990;  Birmingham Institute, 1992; Eleanor Print Open,  L/Spa 1995; Laing Landscape Open 1994 & 1995; Leamington Spa Open, 2000.
