New Day For Meetings
Please note that our monthly meetings are now on the first TUESDAY of every month except August and January.Compton Verney Spring Exhibition
Into the light: an exhibition of French and British painting from Impressionism to the early 1920s 31 March 2012 to 10 June 2012 This exhibition surveys the production of paintings on both sides of the Channel during this decisive period in the history of European art, revealing connections and allowing a comparison of the artists' work. It will offer a rare opportunity to connsider whether British artists were merely following French innovations or were producing work that was more suited to contemporary British interests and values. The exhibition comprises 54 paintings and drawings from major galleries throughout the UK including works by Vanessa Bell, Eugene Boudin, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Walter Sickert, Alfred Sisley, Alexander Stanhope Forbes and Philip Wilson SteerArtwork Needed
The White Swan Hotel in Stratford Upon Avon is currently being developed. We are looking for some artwork on a swan or Shakespeare theme to use in the hotel when it opens again in April. We need a range of traditional and contemporary pieces. If anyone has a drawing, painting, sculpture or other piece (and we are open to pieces in any medium) that is of suitable quality and that would work well in a hotel (public rooms or bedrooms) and they might like to sell it, then I would like them to send me an email by 9am on Wednesday 8th February with: • A short description of the piece • It’s dimensions • A PDF of it • What is the best price they would sell it for. I will review the PDFs and if there is anything I would like to see I will arrange a day to come up to Stratford and meet with the artists – it’s looking like that might be February 14th! It’s possible that if we buy things from particular artists we may ask them if they are interested in producing more similar pieces, although this would be on quite a tight timeframe as I would need them by mid-March. This is just an invitation for artists to show me what they have and there are no guarantees that any contact will result in purchases, but it would be nice to source some pieces from local artists. Accordingly I would not recommend that anyone makes pieces as a result of this approach, but if you do have works on either of the above themes that you have already finished - why not show me them in case they are of interest. I can of course confirm that your work will not be used in any way if it is not purchased. I look forward to hearing from any interested parties. I understand that the exhibition will be up during the week Feb 11th to 18th, so please do try and drop in and support this event.
